Finger Painting

Mix 1 Cup Starch

5 Cups of water

1 Cup soap flakes

Place in pan on low until it has the consistency of thick cream

Separate into cups and add approx 1t. of powdered tempera and a few drops of glycerin to each cup. Use butcher paper to paint on. *Dampen paper before the children begin painting.       http://jazznoonart.com

Paper Mache’ Maracas

Need: Old light bulb, newspaper, wheat paste, popcorn or rice, acrylic paint, clear acrylic glossy sealer

 

1.       Cover the light bulb with strips of paper that have been dunked into the paste. It is helpful to show the children how to wipe off the extra paste by sliding the paper between two outstretched fingers. Use several layers.

2.       When the paper mache’ is dry, puncture a small hole on the top of the light bulb, add a few grains of rice or popcorn. Cover up hole with a few more strips of paper and paste.

3.       Add a final layer of paper mache’ using rough paper towels or a paper lunch bag strips to create a smooth base

4.       When paper mache’ is dry have the children trace designs with a pencil onto the maraca. Paint with acrylic paint. After paint has dried add a last layer of clear glossy acrylic sealer. http://jazznoonart.com

 

Cat Stencil Painting

Prep-time: 5-8 Minutes, activity time: 20 min

 

Supplies needed:

 Construction paper

Cat stencil

Print and cut out outline of cat. Trace onto tag board or lightweight cardboard. Cut out shape to make stencil. Tape stencil to construction paper. Use a variety of paintbrushes and tempera paints. Once the children are finished with the stencil it should be removed while still wet. Let the paintings dry and then decorate with markers.
